Ex Libris – The Maltese Falcon

I’m currently reading the manliest of manly books…The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammett. It’s also one of the most gorgeous books in my library. The cover art is stunning and the font inside is Art Deco. I love detective fiction – I grew up with Sherlock Holmes – and I am loving this book.

I love the Hammett’s writing. He’s amazing at creating a visual in my mind. I’ve never been so quickly immersed in a book. It’s wonderful writing, and he’s quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

  1. I like Hammett a lot (the beginning description of Spade is a classic), but Raymond Chandler’s always been a bit more to my liking. Occasionally I’ll slum it with James M. Cain and his filthy, filthy books.
