Ex Libris – Black Hawk Down

bhd_cvrSo I joined a book club. That’s what adults do, right? The first book for us to read was Black Hawk Down, so I gave it a chance, despite the fact that I’m not really being “into” war books.

In case you didn’t see the movie 10 years ago (holy crap, where did the time go?), it was based on the book, which was an account of a military operation in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. One of the main events in the book is when a pair of Black Hawk helicopters are shot down, and the crew is forced to survive while waiting for rescue and reinforcements.

The author is journalist Mark Bowden, and he did a fantastic job of covering both sides of the story in a powerful way. This was a great read and I highly recommend it!

“Nobody asks to be a hero, it just sometimes turns out that way.”

― Mark Bowden, Black Hawk Down
